Ora Urban Café’s mission is to transform the food landscape of South Central Los Angeles, where access to affordable, nutritious food has been historically limited. Food deserts, like those in South Central, are neighborhoods where residents often face significant barriers to purchasing fresh, healthy, and affordable food. In these areas, fast food chains and convenience stores frequently dominate, offering processed, high-calorie foods that contribute to higher rates of obesity, diabetes, and other diet-related illnesses. Ora Urban Café steps in as a solution, aiming to bring fresh, wholesome meals to the heart of these underserved communities.
At the core of Ora Urban Café’s mission is the belief that access to healthy food is a basic human right. Ora Urban Café is committed to ensuring that everyone in South Central has access to nutritious meals without sacrificing affordability. Through community-centered pricing and accessible menu options, Ora Urban Café provides an affordable alternative to fast food. This makes it possible for residents to make healthier choices without stretching their budget, promoting a healthier lifestyle that was previously out of reach.
Beyond affordability, Ora Urban Café places a strong emphasis on quality and nutrition. They prioritize locally sourced, fresh ingredients to create meals that are as nutritious as they are delicious. By partnering with local farms and food suppliers, Ora Urban Café supports regional agriculture, reduces the environmental impact associated with long-distance food transportation, and brings fresh produce directly to the tables of South Central residents. This commitment to local sourcing strengthens community ties and boosts the local economy while keeping the café’s carbon footprint low
In a neighborhood historically neglected in terms of access to nutritious food, Ora Urban Café stands as a beacon of positive change. By providing affordable, healthy food and creating a welcoming space for community education and engagement, Ora Urban Café addresses the urgent need for equitable food access in South Central Los Angeles. It’s a mission that goes beyond just serving food; it’s about nourishing a community and fostering a healthier, more sustainable future.
Since 2018, Tina Amin and Tony Jolly, the husband-and-wife duo behind ORA Urban Café, have been dedicated to serving the heart and soul of Leimert Park Village. Their café, formerly Hot and Cool Café, is more than just a place to eat or grab a cup of coffee—it’s a nurturing space where community members come to feel seen, supported, and uplifted.
Tina and Tony’s deep love for Leimert Park inspires every aspect of ORA Urban Café, from the fresh, whole ingredients in their dishes to their commitment to ethically sourced, hand-roasted coffee. Believing in the healing power of food, they craft a menu that not only nourishes the body but also supports emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being.
ORA Urban Café reflects their passion for fostering connection, creating a welcoming haven for all who enter, and contributing to the cultural fabric of Leimert Park. It also provides employment and training opportunities for previously incarcerated individuals, expanding its mission to uplift the community.
